Yes. Diagnostic lab testing is a qualified medical expense under CRA guidelines. If your employer provides a Health Spending Account (also called a Health Care Spending Account or HCSA), the GI-MAP™ test is an eligible expense. You can either pay with your benefits card at checkout or pay out-of-pocket and submit your itemized receipt for reimbursement.
After your purchase, you'll receive an itemized receipt that includes the provider name (Real Health Diagnostics Inc.), the service description, date, and amount paid. Submit this receipt through your employer's benefits portal or to your plan administrator. Most plans process claims within 5–10 business days.
Some employer HSA plans issue a benefits card that works like a Visa or Mastercard. If it's declined, it may be because:
- Your plan requires you to submit receipts for reimbursement rather than using a card at point of sale
- The merchant category hasn't been recognized by your card issuer yet
- Insufficient remaining balance in your HSA for the current plan year
If declined, pay with any personal credit or debit card and submit your receipt to your plan administrator for reimbursement. The result is the same — you get your money back from your HSA.
No referral is required to order the GI-MAP™ test. However, some HSA plans may request a letter from a healthcare practitioner confirming the test was recommended for a health concern. If your plan administrator asks for this, contact us and we can help.
Diagnostic laboratory testing is listed as an eligible medical expense under the Income Tax Act (Section 118.2). The GI-MAP™ is a comprehensive DNA-based stool analysis performed by a licensed laboratory. It qualifies as a diagnostic test, not a cosmetic or elective service.
If you're a U.S. customer, the GI-MAP™ test is a qualified medical expense under IRS Section 213(d). You can pay with your HSA or FSA debit card at checkout. See gimaptest.com for U.S.-focused pricing and information.
